The Competition for the Stefan Barbacki National Scientific Award in Plant Genetics is Now Open.

The Scientific Council of the Institute of Plant Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IPG PAS) in Poznań has established the Stefan Barbacki National Scientific Award in Plant Genetics.

The award is granted by the Award Committee for outstanding scientific work in the field of plant genetics, carried out in research laboratories in Poland by young scientists (up to 35 years old – including authors of team-based work).

The award is given for original research documented by publications in national or international journals within the last two years (2023-2024), which have not been previously awarded. Both individual researchers and research teams can apply for the award, but not more than once every three years.

Applications to the Award Committee at IPG PAS can be submitted by individual researchers, directors/heads of scientific institutions, or scientific councils/departments by May 31, 2025. Applications should be addressed to the Chair of the Award Committee, Prof. Wojciech Święcicki (wswi@igr.poznan.pl).

The applications should include statements from the author(s) or the representative of the applying scientific institution, along with PDFs (photocopies) of the attached publications. In the case of a team paper, the percentage contribution of each author shoud be specified.

The awardees will receive a diploma and a cash prize. The diploma will be handed over at the meeting of the Scientific Council of the IPG PAS.

National scientific institutions in the field of plant genetics and sponsors will be informed about the award decisions.
